Announcements:
Neighborhood House completed a focus group of community needs for the Rainier Vista area that involved groups of service providers, youth, and adult residents. If you would like a copy of the report please contact Amy.

Street lights on MLK continue to be adjusted for timing and the city is initiating a program of traffic safety for areas affected by the light rail. Craig Paige with the city will be training traffic safety educators.

The RV Service Providers blog will continue to be updated as most parties have deemed it useful. Gregory will measure traffic on the site to gauge interest. Please send him your news.

Next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 18th at 10-11:30AM at Providence Gamelin House. Ba Cam Ma will facilitate.

Staff changes:
The Youth Tutoring Program is no longer being run by Tina Brennan. There is no word on a new replacement.
Beverly Johnson of Seattle University, who headed their nursing program visits at RV since 2001 is no longer with the school. Helen Miske ('hmiske@seattleu.edu') is assuming these responsibilities.

Interested in collaborating with other agencies to best utilize their computer lab
Interested in hosting health programs
Open to summer planning for NH facility as it will be under-utilized at that time

Gregory Schaffer-Refugee Women’s Alliance
ReWA is currently hiring a new Education Director, Somali Family Advocate, and Youth Program Assistants
Youth Program obtained a math grant from OSPI and will be integrating a math program with the hiring of new math teachers
Second Annual Refugee and Immigrant Rally on February 11th in Olympia. ReWA and other Seattle organizations will provide transportation for interested parties.
Space at ReWA Rainier Vista is available during the day to interested parties.

Ba Cam Ma-Gamelin House
Interested in ESL classes for residents
Tai Chi with residents 2:30PM on Fridays
Interested in community talks to prevent vandalism to cars and other property

Sara Lee, Nelson Lopez, Lena -Neighborhood Health Centers
Sara- at SE Dental by New Holly, needs more kids for services, accepts Medicaid, sliding scale for other services, dental exam required for kids participating in Head Start
Nelson-Interested in providing health education or job safety. Currently in Spanish but will collaborate with other parties to educate in other languages.
Lena-Highpoint Medical and Dental, available for children’s health services

Miyuki Bigelow-Rainier Health and Fitness
Working on “Make a move” community fitness program. Sign up under Washington Health Foundation to make WA the healthiest state in the nation. Log mileage and weight. For ages 13+.
Offers gymnastics class through its space for ages 4-7.
Free evening child care.
Ladies night on T/TH, 6-8PM

Seattle University nursing students
Operating a monthly medical screening at Gamelin House from 10-12AM on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
Willing to collaborate with other organizations to meet your health needs
Open to volunteering for area organizations

Becky-Cultivating Youth/Americorps/P-Patch
Wants to work with Gamelin House in education
Currently operates a weekly gardening activity in collaboration with YTP

Naomi-SHA
Will return as full-time to R.V. upon completion of RV Phase 2
Operating 3 groups:
Traffic Safety/Crime Prevention (1/2 owners ½ renters)-meets 1st Monday 7PM at NH
Multicultural Committee-no set time but next meeting is 1/23, 6PM, at NH
Wants increased integration, hosts quarterly pot-luck, creating residential directory
Vietnamese/Chinese Coffee Group- meets 1st Thursday, 10AM at NH
Google Group posting to residents available through Christina gilman

Julie Brown-P-patch
Cultivating Communities works with almost all SHA properties.
Gardens are of types including: basic community, income generating, youth
Wants to read a broader community through other languages
Developing outreach for new Dakota St. garden

Ruth Egger-Healthy and Active Rainier Valley Coalition
Meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1-2:30
Next meeting will feature Tim Gallagher of Seattle Parks and Recreaction
Hosting yoga at ReWA main office on Fridays at 3pm
Hosting Tai Chi at Gamelin House on Fridays at 2:30pm

Underage drinking town meeting on April 2nd, 5:30-7PM
Looking for elderly dental education for Cambodian population

Looking for more teens for Friday art program
