Agency updates:

Denise Lewis-Boys and Girls Club
Boys and Girls club of Rainier Vista will open on October 1st
Will be hiring 15 part-time, 5-6 full-time staff
Will include a music studio, game room, computer room
YTP and Nature Consortium moving there, but probably open at current location for beginning of school year
Could open health clinic but still looking for partnerships

Annual Easter Egg Hunt, at Rainier Community Center, March 22nd, 10:30AM
Spring Break for kids ages 5-12, 7:30AM-6:00PM, $75

Yvette-Genesee House
Needs outreach to residents by CBOs. Could host a service provider get-together
Genesee House has many isolate elderly
Few families are participating in ESL classes
Please send her flyers or visit to make residents aware of programming

Amy Kickliter-Neighborhood House
Amy is moving to the White Center office, will still work on the computer lab at R.V.
Will be offering new ESL classes
Looking for funding/HUD money for computer lab
Interested in partnership development, building funding from Regence

Nelson Lopez-Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Centers
Teaching a stress reduction for body and mind class
Learn how to reduce stress, pain and anxiety through Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Nine-week class every Monday from Apriil 14th to June 16th, only $45

Possible performance at UW for free with food
April 2nd – Community meeting to keep youth alcohol-free
Rainier Vista, 5-7PM
Kids who drink before age 15 are 5 times more likely to have alcohol problems as adults

Preparedness disaster program-Learn how to put together a disaster supplies kit, create a family disaster plan and organize with your neighbors to take care when disaster strikes

Now in charge of Vietnamese tea time 10-12, 1st Tuesday of the month
Focused on Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Chinese
Works with RV management office
Provide low-income housing, homeownership education and counseling, financial literacy, tutoring and support, job skills and related services.

Look for Providence’s new logo with the sun rising but everything else is the same
Looking for more collaborations with other agencies
Please contact, he wants the residents to “break the ice” with the outside world
Population is 78% SE Asian, 10% are English speakers
Ba can translate small things
Please come to the birthday party on the 2nd Wednesday of the month to distribute your information

Community pot-luck very successful with 90 people
Monthly clean-up started in March drew 30 people

Maggie Sung-ReWA
Training program for childcare, 8-week intensive training to become a licensed child care provider
For level 3 ESL or higher
Students will be able to work in a childcare facility or open their own place

Marci Miller- Neighborhood House
Works in childhood development for ages 4-5
Early Head Start for birth to 3
Parent Child Home Program, PCHP- enrolls in September for ages 2-3
Participants get a free book and toy
PCHP is always full so enroll early!
